The Decision: Affordability of Accountancy and Strong Curriculum
Choosing a state school for my Master’s of Accountancy was a decision grounded in practicality and ambition. State schools often offer high-quality education at a more affordable price compared to other competitive institutions. This affordability allowed me to focus on my studies without the overwhelming burden of debt. Additionally, the strong curriculum provided by my state school has equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the field of accounting.
The Accountancy Journey So Far: Triumphs and Self-Doubt
The journey to earning my Master’s has been filled with both triumphs and challenges. Each semester brought new courses, each more demanding than the last. There were moments when self-doubt crept in, making me question my abilities and choices. For instance, anyone who has taken summer courses KNOWS that the summer term is the shortest semester to embark in between the year.
The pressure to perform well, combined with the rigorous demands of work, often felt overwhelming. If I could put it metaphorically I felt like I was climbing Everest using nothing but dental floss while wearing flip flops… unprepared, may die, but at least the view was sweet. As a lifelong overachiever, thinker, and eater I honestly thought, this is it…this is the big one, the BIG F, you fill in the blanks for each category 😉.
However, these moments of doubt were counterbalanced by achievements and breakthroughs. Successfully completing challenging projects, receiving positive feedback from professors, and seeing tangible improvements in my understanding of complex accounting principles were all affirmations that I was on the right path. It also helped knowing that a classmate of mine helped me making sure that I was secure and had references that I was able to refer to throughout the term. These experiences taught me that self-doubt is a natural part of any rigorous academic journey and that perseverance is key. Did I mention I made A’s in both of my classes?
Summer Break: A Time for Rest and Reflection
Summer break has provided a much-needed respite from the academic grind. It’s a time to recharge, reflect, and prepare for the final stretch of my program. During this break, I’ve taken the opportunity to relax, spend time with family and friends, and engage in hobbies that I enjoy. This downtime has been crucial for my mental and emotional well-being, allowing me to return to my studies with renewed energy and focus.
Looking Ahead: Two More Semesters Until Graduation
With just two more semesters left until graduation, the finish line is in sight. These final semesters will undoubtedly be demanding, but they also hold the promise of new knowledge and experiences that will further prepare me for a successful career in accounting. I’m excited about the advanced courses and the opportunity to apply what I’ve learned in real-world scenarios.
As I look ahead, I’m also mindful of the importance of maintaining a balance between my studies and self-care. The lessons I’ve learned about managing stress and combating self-doubt will be invaluable as I tackle the remaining coursework and prepare for my future career.
Conclusion
Earning a Master’s of Accountancy has been a journey of growth, challenge, and self-discovery. The affordability and strong curriculum of my state school have provided a solid foundation, while moments of self-doubt have taught me resilience. As I enjoy my summer break and gear up for my final two semesters, I’m filled with anticipation and determination. Graduation is within reach, and with it, the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. The journey has been demanding, but the rewards – both personal and professional – make it all worthwhile.
